John
W. Lynn Performing Arts Scholarship awarded
We are celebrating the 10th bestowal of the John W. Lynn Performing Arts Scholarship.
This worthy program began in 2000 as a commemoration of John
W.
Lynn's devotion to recognizing students with performing arts talent.
The Kirk Players have had a long-standing business
relationship
with Mundelein High School, so the organization developed the criteria
for the scholarship and installed the program, honoring its first
recipient, Brianna Sprague, in 2000.
"Being
able to reward young people who have achieved the highest levels in the
worlds of theatre, music and dance, as well as academics and community
service during their high school career, is a gift in itself!", said
Mr. Lynn as he exited the MHS Honors Assembly on Friday, May 15.
Mr.
Lynn was attending the awards assembly to announce the recipient of the
2009 John W. Lynn Performing Arts $1000 scholarship: Madeline
Martini.
Madeline,
who will pursue Music Ed and
International Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
distinguished herself in theatre and band at MHS. She has
sung
and danced in, and provided technical support for, no less than 10
theatre productions at MHS. She has been awarded high honors
at
the State IMEA Honors Chorus in 2008 and 2009. In addition,
she
has been a member of the MHS Jazz Band, playing trumpet and fugelhorn.
To round out her outstanding high school career, Madeline has
been an active member of the National Honor Society, carrying a 4.25
GPA.
The Kirk
Players are proud of Madeline's
accomplishments and delighted that she has been selected as the 10th
recipient of the John W. Lynn Performing Arts scholarship. |
